The Source
"We enjoyed our stay with you immensely and especially good
conversation with apperitifs. Many best wishes for your warm hospitality." -
Linda and Ken ( Virginia)
The Source is, as the French say, "Mignon, un bijou - romantique".
The Source cottage is a perfect hideaway for a couple. For a writer or artist, or anyone who just feels a need to "get away from it all", it's an in-expensive retreat. (Talk to us about longer out-of-season rentals.) Write that book, or just read.
It is rural and quiet here. If we see more than five cars a day on our road, we wonder where
the party is (and why weren't we invited). The local village, shopping, fresh bread and
croissant, even the good sized supermarket is an easy pre-breakfast bicycle ride away; a few short minutes by car.

When we first came to the little hamlet, the well, which is alongside the main barn, was our only source of water. We used the old cast iron pulley to draw up the bucket. It was some time, before we realised that the wall behind the well had originally contained a high archway giving access from inside the barn. It had been filled in with stones.
When they were cleared away, the tall arch was revealed; the concept of the Source cottage at
Maison Borges was
revealed, as well.

The Source has Charentaise stone walls, ceramic tiled
floors, exposed wooden vaulted ceiling with huge main beams upstairs. Its insulated ceiling
helps cool the Source during the summer. With it's glass-fronted wood-burning stove/fireplace, The Source is
cozy and warm out-of-season.
Downstairs:
Vestiaire (cloakroom), utility room with washing machine, hand basin and WC.
Open plan living room, dining room and fully equipped kitchen, including
refrigerator-freezer, dishwasher, gas cooking stove with oven, microwave oven,
utensils, cutlery and crockery, etc. There is a leather
sofa, easy chairs, book case, and DVD player and sound system.
The view through the well window is of the garden we call the English park, because of it's Northern European trees: walnut, lime, oak, birch, ash and maple.
(True, the young gingko hails from farther afield, having come here with us by sailing ship.)

Upstairs:
A large, 30 square metre (300 sq ft), carpeted bedroom with a large double bed, capacious chest-of-drawers, old
mahogany wardrobe, and ensuite bathroom with ceramic tiled floor and a luxurious shower, hand basin and
WC.
And, there is a bathtub.

The Source has its own terrace, and is just around the barn from the large
swimming
pool.
Private parking space.
