The
Confiterie
The
Confiterie is lovely! Cool, open and airy in summer, warm and cosy in winter, and always
surprising - a tardis of a cottage.
The Confiterie is a stand-alone, Roman tiled, Charente stone cottage, with the new addition of a bedroom wing that encloses the private terrace or courtyard. The style could be described as "trad meets ranch".
The master bedroom with ensuite bathroom has an area of about 500 sq feet. Between the master bedroom and original cottage is a second room of 300 sq feet. The Serre is also used,
from time to time, as a secondary bedroom with it's own wc and hand basin vestiaire.
The main house, now opened up, has a soaring ceiling. The tiled floor area of the main salon alone is 110m2 (1100sq ft), as large as many a two story house. The roof beams and rafters are exposed, creating a great sense of space. The north wall, 10m (32ft), is all wood and glass, affording views of the terrace, orchard, gardens and mature trees of Parc Solaire, as well as the surrounding countryside.
Skylights allow sunshine to project into, and move across, the room stimulating the indoor plants and trees. In the centre is a large stone fireplace, open on both sides. The fireplace, which burns easily and smoke-free, serves to divide the room into six areas.
Entrance: Table, coat stand, shoe rack, etc. Door leads off to a bathroom.
Dining: Seating for 6-8 at table in front of one open side of the central fireplace.
Island Kitchen: The cooks look out into the room and at the fireplace and the gardens beyond. Double sink, dishwasher, microwave, eye-level fridge/freezer, gas cooker and oven, coffeemaker, kettle, etc.
Living area: Leather chairs and sofa in front of the open central fireplace.
Library and recreation: Sound system, boardgames and books. After half a lifetime making documentary films and news shows for television, we had designated
Parc Solaire a TV-free zone. There is a DVD player for watching movies (don't forget to bring that "must catch up on"
stack). (Any old movies you don't want can be left to contribute to our in-house stock.)
Sleeping: In addition to the spacious master bedroom and ensuite
bathroom with a luxurious shower, the Northwest Corner with ensuite big bathroom and large free-standing bath, WC, bidet, hand basin, clothes-washing machine
and dryer.

Private terrace: Real stone paving and wood decking; landscaped with olive tree,
lavender, bougainvillea, shrubs and flowers.
The sunny terrace has views of the orchard and the sun setting behind the Italian cypress trees on "Monk's Hill".
Private car parking.
For the sailor or sailing family, consider mooring your boat in the low priced,
locked-in, floating pontoon, full-facility marina in the classic Renaissance port at Mortagne-sur-Gironde. Let your family and friends stay at
Parc Solaire, just 15 minutes away.
The Swimming

Pool is a 15
metres x 15 metres fully fenced in swimming pool with generous sunbathing space on it's wide, surrounding
tiled terrace, and a beach, and "Wildcat Island".
